About Our School

St. Andrew's School owes its existence primary to the late Rev. Fr. Jose Kalmlett, Founder of the Missionaries of Compassion, Heralds of Good News and Sisters of Good News. Fr. Jose was known for his extraordinary missionary zeal, particulary for his tireless efforts to uplift the less fortunate. He always believed in doing, what appears to be impossible to ordinary people. What St. Andrew's School is today is the result of such a vision coupled with his ardent desire to do good for others. As a first step, in the year 1996 Fr. Jose bought fifteen acres of land at Thirumanthurai and set it aside for a school. The school pays its humble tribute to him. Thirumanthurai was a backward and underdeveloped rural area in Perambalur District. The challening task of building and establishing a school was taken up enthusiastically by Rev. Fr. Joy Oravanamthadathil, then Provincial Superior of Heralds of Good News.

Following in the footsteps of his role-model Fr. Jose Kaimlett, he embraced it as a God-given opportunity to provide value based quality education to thousands of economically poor children and to give them better opportunities in the modern competitive world. Thus on 8th September 1998, Fr. Joy blessed and laid Foundation Stone for St. Andrew's Matriculation School. The School is immensely indebted to him as well as to his friends and well-wishers from Germany. The School was officially blessed on 28th July, 1999 by his Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Peter Remigius, then Bishop of Kumbakonam in the presence of several Priests, Nuns and other distinguished guests. Once a bushy and marshy piece of land at the remote village of Thirumanthurai has been today transformed into divine centre of education where thousands of pupils are formed and taught to love and serve our secular Mother India, where sacrifice and love meet truth and wisdom, where ignorance and darkness give way to true knowledge and light and thus making it a real "Good News Nagar!!!".

St. Andrew's School got recognition from the Govt.of Tamil Nadu in the 2000. The School was upgraded to Higher Secondary in 2007. The Foundation Stone for the Higher Secondary School Was laid on 14th March 2007 by Mr. Rudolf Metzker and was blessed by his Excellency, Most. Rev Fr. Antony Samy, Bishop of Kumbakonam and opened by Very Rev. Jose Kaimlett on 16th March 2009. Over the years, St. Andrews school has witnessed remarkable achievements. Today children from more than 100 villages are receiving quality education at this school. Every year the result of 10th 12th the public examinations has been a 100% pass with the toppers attaining 1/2 rank several times at state / District levels. It continues to be a well - sought after school in the area both in terms of schooling as well as employment. Today St. Andrew's is educating about 4000 students and employing 200 teaching and non teaching staff.

Every child has the right to education. And we believe that every responsible citizen has the duty to help children in their education. Keeping this mind St. Andrew's School aims at bringing up our village children with sterling qualities through value based education. We assist them in their best character formation. We mould them to become self-disciplined, self-respecting but selfless, responsible, open service minded, hardworking and enlightened citizens of our country. They are also taught to cultivate an attitude of gratitude towards God, the nation, teachers, the elderly as well as the friends and well- wishers of our School.
